Speaker: Ann Shaw
BETTY HAVEN'S DAY Betty’s Haven is a woman’s shelter on the northeast side of Houston. It is a small home, having only 14 beds, but provides comprehensive services to the women and children it shelters. Like all such homes, Betty’s Haven is in need of all kinds of help.
The Board has declared our June membership meeting to be “Betty’s Haven Day,” and asks all members to bring a donation to the meeting including art supplies for the children. Other supplies needed: cleaning cloths; toilet paper; any cleaning supplies such as dish soap, laundry soap, dishwasher soap, furniture polish, floor polish; and office supplies. They can also use the small soaps and cosmetics from hotels as they make gift packets for each new resident. Betty Street will be at the June member meeting to give a short rundown of the Haven, and answer any questions. Betty’s Haven is a part of the North Channel Coalition, and a 501(c)(3) organization. A full “Wish List” is on the web.ousHouH

June 16, 2008 - WIVLA General Membership Meeting
Program: Gail Lorber: "I'm from the government and I'm here to help…really!"
Gail Lorber is a Senior Consultant with the Small Business Development Center (a division of the federal Small Business Administration), and her job is to help people start up and grow their businesses…for free! Join us to hear about the many no-cost services available to small business owners, from assistance with updating your business plan or obtaining some market research data, to help with understanding cash flow, getting loans for growth, or doing business with the government. There are even special government programs specifically for women business owners that Gail will discuss.
Gail owned her own business and marketing consulting firm for over 20 years after hitting the corporate "glass ceiling" in the 1980s, and now says that "providing my advice and assistance for free is not only the easiest sale I've ever made, but also the most gratifying one, especially when I can help other women to succeed!"
Guests are welcome.
